5 Practical Tips to Help You Beat Sin

Jamie FarquharYouth Ministry Blog

Sin, in its simplest explanation, is rebelling against God’s unfathomably gracious and loving will and guidance for your life. Because of the sin Adam and Eve committed in the garden of Eden, all humans born from 2 human parents inherit their sinful, rebellious nature as result (Romans 5). We don’t even know we are rebelling and fighting against His will and want for our life from birth, but that’s the whole reason Jesus came to earth and died! It was to take our place and save us from being in constant rebellion against our awesome Creator who just wants to love us, help us, guide us to what truly matters in life, help us see the unmatched worth and beauty He sees in us, and have a dazzlingly joyous, ongoing relationship with us! And when God reveals something to us, it isn’t to shame us. It’s to help us heal. He just wants to help us in ways we may not even realize we need help. We don’t have to be helpless in fighting against sin! Accepting Christ as our savior, because He died on the cross in place for our punishment for rebelling against God, frees us and empowers us to choose His infinitely better, loving guidance for our life!!😁 Way better than the best we could ever imagine!!😁 (John 10:10)

Here’s some great scripture that’s incredibly helpful in helping us honestly search our own hearts for conscious and subconscious sin and fight back against the deceptive attacks of the devil (and Truth is the only way to defeat lies!)! (Ephesians 6:10-18)

“Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?” (Romans 2:4)

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you,

and lead me along the path of everlasting life” (Psalm 139:23-24)

“Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires” (Romans 13:14)

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” (James 5:16)

“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11)

“Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants” (2 Timothy 2:22-26)
