While the Emancipation Proclamation wasn’t perfect in many respects, it was ultimately used as a positive force for good by rallying so many behind the idea that ALL people are created equal by God and should be cared for and treated that way. As Christians we echo this belief, because Genesis 1:27 says God created ALL humans in His image, therefore, we ALL have immeasurable worth in His eyes!
As believers we celebrate when justice happens for those who are oppressed! The Bible talks a ton about how God loves justice, freedom, and liberation; works things towards bringing those ideas about in our world both directly and through those who bear His likeness; and rejoices when true justice prevails! (Micah 6:8)
Today as we celebrate the official end to the practice of slavery in every part of the United States and the new freedom, hope, and possibilities that brought, let us continue honoring that same spirit by letting God’s guidance, wisdom, and compassion direct us in listening to other’s stories and experiences then seeking and being a voice for His justice and freedom for the wronged and oppressed. Let us also tell every person we meet of the joyous, life changing love God offers to every, single person equally no matter the color of their skin, nationality, or social standing only through a relationship with Jesus Christ!
Please share your stories with us so we can better learn how to be God’s hands, feet, and heart to those who experience injustices close to His heart (and so we can also have a more direct discussion without interruptions), and if you don’t already have that freedom of a “life to the full” Jesus promises btw, we’d love to talk to you and help walk with you through how to find it in Him!
