1335 Water War

Jamie FarquharYouth Ministry Blog

Summer Games continues with a WATER WAR! On Sunday, July 25, from 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm, we will meet on the front lawn of FUMC Wetumpka for an afternoon of water games!

We will all have our own water guns (whether you bring your own or buy/borrow one at the event), stay outside, have water bottles and individually wrapped/packaged snacks and a popsicle, and try to stay as far apart as recommended to keep everyone safe!

Dress Code:

With every water event, and event involving water, we try to have a ton of fun while also keeping the focus on honoring God by being as modest and as little of a stumbling block to others’ walk with Him as possible (1 Timothy 4:12, 1 Corinthians 10:31-33). In this way we seek to encourage viewing, respecting, treating, and valuing both ourselves and others like God does (as His precious, amazing creations of immeasurable worth) while also trying to discourage using the world’s standards to view/evaluate ourselves and others, which can lead to objectification, self-doubt, and even excessive pride (which are all devaluations of ourselves and others able to take root in our hearts that don’t reflect God’s heart in any way) (1 Corinthians 6:19&20, John 10:10). Just like our ministry verses, John 13:34-35, emphasize, we want to continually grow in seeing others like God does, encouraging and comforting others like He does, and loving others like He does (even when it means giving up some of our freedoms to help others in their journey to be continually transformed more and more in to Christ’s likeness)! (Romans 12:1-3, 1 Corinthians 10:23, John 15:12-14)

Girls: Modest one piece or tankini where top and bottom meet. Bikinis allowed only if a dark t-shirt (the goal is to not be seen through when wet) is worn over it that goes to mid-thigh level.

Guys: Dark t-shirt (that can’t be seen through when wet) and swim trunks. No muscle shirts, sleeveless shirts, or a-frame shirts.

What to Bring:

Wear your swimwear and bring a towel, a set of dry clothes, and $5 if you want to keep your water gun.

Giveaway:

We will have a drawing for two water guns at 2:30 pm. You must be in attendance to be entered into the drawing and win one!

RSVP:

Text WATER to 334-366-8400 or email Jamie at jamie@firstwetumpka.com to RSVP. The deadline to RSVP to make sure you will have a water gun, popsicle, and snack is Friday, July 23, at 10:00 pm. You can even bring $5 to purchase the water gun you use and let the fun continue at home (following a parent/guardian’s permission of when and where to use it :)!
